“Birding Cape Cod” published jointly by the Cape Cod Bird Club and MassAudubon, is a 184-page guide covering prime birding sites throughout the peninsula. However, it has been out-or-print for some time and is not easy to find. And given the numerous and rapid changes that have taken place on Cape cod since it was first published, many sections are out-of-date. Nonetheless, if you can find a copy it will provide a good reference to guide you to the best birding sites.
Published by the Cape Cod Bird, the “Checklist of the Birds of Cape Cod” shows by means of bar graphs the seasonal status of 336 species that have been recorded on Cape Cod with some regularity over the past 20 years. It sells for about $1.00 and is available from a number of local outlets, including the Birdwatcher’s General Store in Orleans. The last revision was in 2021. A pdf of the checklist can be downloaded by clicking on the image (best if printed on 8.5″ x 14″ paper.
